ECM32 - Science Slam
What is a Science Slam?
The idea behind the ‘Science Slam’ is to introduce the broad field of crystallography to the public. To accomplish this, we are looking for creative, entertaining and simple/understandable talks of scientists from all fields of crystallography around Europe. The presentations should have a strong focus on potential applications, future developments and reference to everyday life. We do not want to scare laymen away with big equations and complicated or cryptic data. We would like to show them how important crystallography is – to the past, present, and the future.
How should the presentations look like?
Your presentation should be short (10 min without discussion), entertaining and about your field of research. You are free to choose between a PowerPoint presentation, an expressionist dance routine, or anything in between… It is up to you!
The goal is to have a great time AND teach the audience about crystallography.
Why should you apply?
In addition to the obvious motive of bringing crystallography closer to public attention, the Science Slam can be a great opportunity to present yourself and your research to your peers and the public. You can perform the presentation alone, as a duo or in a group. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The most popular talks (decided by the audience) will be awarded with a price.
Venue and Date
The Science Slam will take place on the first full day (19th August 2019) of this year’s ECM32 in Vienna. On this day, the conference is supposed to be open to the public and television. The exact location will be announced soon. Please stay tuned!
